Terms
The agreement between you and Firefly when you use it. Short where it can be, and written so you do not need a lawyer to read it.
Last updated 12 October 2026.
Who you are agreeing with
Firefly is built and run by Nurah Kamal in Cape Town, South Africa. When these terms say “I”, that is who they mean. You can reach me at hello@
By using Firefly you agree to these terms and to the privacy page, which says what happens to your information.
Joining
- Every account is approved by a person. I may say no to a request, and I do not always have room to say yes.
- One account is for one person. Do not share your sign-in, and keep your password to yourself.
- Keep your sign-in safe. If you think someone else has got into your account, tell me straight away at hello@
studyfirefly.com . - The details you give when you ask for an invite should be true.
- You need to be 18 or older.
What it costs
Nothing while invitations are limited. If that ever changes, you will be told before it does, not after.
What stays yours
Your notes, and the study material made from them, belong to you. By putting them in Firefly you let me store them, show them back to you, and send them to the AI providers named on the privacy page when you press Generate. That permission is only for running Firefly for you, and it ends when your account is deleted.
Only add material you are allowed to use. Your own notes and your course's slides for your own study are fine. Sharing someone else's paid material through Firefly is not.
If you send me an idea or a suggestion, I may use it to improve Firefly without owing you anything for it. This never applies to your notes.
The Firefly app, its design, themes and name belong to me.
Generated study material
Summaries, flashcards, practice tests and study guides are written by AI from your notes. They are usually useful and sometimes wrong. Check anything that matters against your notes and your course, and do not rely on Firefly alone to pass an exam.
Using it fairly
Do not use Firefly to:
- harass, threaten or spam anyone, or send anything unlawful, hateful or sexual in chats or pictures;
- pretend to be someone else;
- get into another person's account or data, or test Firefly's security without my written agreement first;
- run scripts or bots against it, copy it in bulk, or try to get around the daily limits;
- add anyone else's personal information, such as a classmate's details or student records, without their permission;
- use Firefly, or what it generates, to build or train a competing product;
- submit generated material as your own work where your college does not allow that.
If someone does any of this, I may remove what they posted, limit their account, or close it. Where I can, I will tell them why.
Limits
To keep Firefly free and fair for everyone, each account has the same limits: forty generations of study material a day, up to thirty chat messages a minute and two thousand a day, and a cap on stored notes and pictures. I may adjust these, and if I lower one I will say so.
When things go wrong
Firefly is run by one person and offered as it is. I work to keep it running and your data safe, but I cannot promise it will always be available, fast or free of mistakes, and features may change.
Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose. To the extent the law allows, I am not responsible for losses that come from Firefly being unavailable, from generated material being wrong, or from how other people use it. Nothing here takes away rights you have under South Africa's Consumer Protection Act or any other law that cannot be set aside.
Ending
You can stop using Firefly whenever you like. To have your account deleted, write to hello@
I may close an account that breaks these terms. If I ever decide to shut Firefly down, I will give you at least a month's notice and a way to download your notes first.
The law that applies
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa. If we disagree about something, write to me first and we will try to sort it out directly.
The small print
If a court finds that one part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. If I do not act on a breach straight away, I have not given up the right to act on it later. These terms and the privacy page are the whole agreement between us about using Firefly.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change in a way that affects you, you will get an email at the address on your account before the change takes effect. The date at the top always shows when they last changed.
